SPECDRUM
SPECDRUM is an original Max For Live device by Neil Baldwin.
At it's heart, SPECDRUM is a two-track sample-based drum computer but it allows a unique sample to be loaded into each step, the output of which is piped through a synthesis and modulation engine.
Both tracks have their own clock dividers, and playback vectors (start, length, speed, direction/mode) but are always in sync with each other and with Live's master clock.
The modulation makes heavy use of randomness and probability which can be changed for each cell of the sequencers. There is also a macro control section which enables you to perform modifications to some or all of the sample cells simultaneously.
Each cell has it's own independent synthesis/modulation engine comprising:
• Sample pitch/speed (and fixed scale mode)
• Amplitude modulation
• Overdrive
• HP/LP resonant filter
• AD envelope
• Panning and gain control
• Sample offset/loop/direction control
• Retriggering and probability
• And also the ability for the cells to modulate themselves.
Update: as of V1.1 (current version) SPECDRUM also supports Live Presets so you can store and recall SPECDRUM setups direct from the device either via the UI or via MIDI.
All of this control can be MIDI-mapped in Live or just interacted with via the UI with a mouse and keyboard. The sample cells themselves can also be played via MIDI, independently of the sequencers.
Pricing
I have spent over 6 months developing SPECDRUM full-time and I feel the asking price reflects fair compensation for my effort and the features packed into it.
